Why Protein Shakes for Women are Needed
Posted on July 31, 2011 by Jerry
While a healthy woman generally needs less protein than a man on a daily basis, there are certain times when protein shakes for women are needed, either as a supplement, or as a complete meal replacement. Fortunately, there are a variety of healthy shakes to choose from, and if the commercially available selection is not appealing, then there is always the option of making your own delicious and nutritious protein shake at home.
A healthy young woman may be concentrating on working out, on bodybuilding, or on sports, for example. During those times, she needs extra protein to help build her muscles. A pre-packaged or homemade shake is the perfect solution for her to supplement her meals during those times.
Another woman may have had a surgical procedure, such as a gastric bypass. In those cases, the patient is usually restricted to a totally liquid diet for a period of time, often a full month or even longer. In that situation, a protein shake is the major component of her meal, and is absolutely essential for her survival. Many doctors recommend that she make her own by mixing whey protein powder with milk. Whey powder is an excellent source of protein, and there are several different flavors available, so she can enjoy some variety from meal to meal. Fortunately, most women find whey protein shakes to be pleasant tasting and enjoyable. And even after she has progressed to the point where she can have solid food in her diet, a gastric bypass patient will always need to emphasize protein in her diet, and so a protein shake can continue be a healthy supplement to her meals. The only caveat to this is that over time, she should not grow dependent on protein shakes as her sole source of nutrition, and so she should be sure to eat a good balance of solid foods in accordance with her doctor’s recommendations.
There are other times in a woman’s life when she just does not have her usual appetite. While it may be normal for one’s appetite to vary to a certain extent, a large decrease in appetite over an extended period of time is reason to consult with your medical provider. It may be caused by depression, or there may be an underlying physical cause. But during those times, a protein shake may be an important way of supplementing your diet, to ensure adequate nutrition.
During her senior years, a woman will want to be sure that she is receiving adequate nutrition so that she can age gracefully. It seems that for many seniors, the appetite is not what it used to be. And so, during this time also, a protein shake may be the thing that is needed to supplement her diet and ensure adequate nutrition.
And so, with all of these various stages and situations in a woman’s life, it is hard to imagine how one could ever get along for her entire life without a protein shake to either supplement or replace her meals during at least some of those times. We are fortunate to have many delicious options in protein shakes available to us. Our lives would certainly be poorer without them.

Excellent article. I appreciate you calling attention to this subject.
I tend to agree with your point, but honestly don’t you think a more moderate solution is the correct one?
